Lottery scams and awareness

When it comes to scamming and conning, sometimes the winner has to lose whereas occasionally out of nothing the winner has been made up or scripted. A lottery scam is a type of advance-fee fraud which begins with an unexpected email notification, phone call, or mailing (sometimes including a large check) explaining that "You have won!" a large sum of money in a lottery.

The recipient of the message, the target of the scam, is usually told to keep the notice secret, "due to a mix-up in some of the names and numbers", and to contact a "claims agent". After contacting the agent, the target of the scam will be asked to pay "processing fees" or "transfer charges" so that the winnings can be distributed, but will never receive any lottery payment. Many email lottery scams use the names of legitimate lottery organizations or other legitimate corporations/companies, but this does not mean the legitimate organizations are in any way involved with the scams.

Watch out for -

If you did not purchase a lottery ticket in this foreign country, it is highly unlikely you can win a prize.
No legitimate lottery requests advance fees.
Characteristically, written notices contain spelling and grammatical mistakes or awkward wording.
The primary methods of distribution for this scam are through the Internet, mail, or by fax. Legitimate government-run lotteries normally choose television, radio, or newspapers to advertise.
Many of the prize letters state the deadline to claim the prize will soon expire.
The written notice may come from a free e-mail account like Yahoo, Hotmail, or Gmail.
You may be told to keep your winnings confidential for “security reasons”.

Proactive measures -

Do not send any money! I am sure it is going to tempt you but do not let your wallet lose for this false and unethical work. Furthermore, it will be essentially impossible to recover any money you send to a fraudulent operation.
Do not give out personal information! Keep all bank and credit card information to yourself. Sharing this information can make you vulnerable to fraudulent use of your accounts or identity theft.
Do not respond! Simply corresponding with the operators of a scam increases your chances of receiving similar offers.

Other types of Crimes - (in case of paper-based lottery system)

Lottery theft is very likely if you are still purchasing a lottery from a paper-based lottery firm.
Imitation of genuine lottery (winning prize) could be produced that could alas a real winner and could defame the lottery firm and create repercussion.
The sole owner of the lottery has no evidence that he owns the respective lottery in case he loses the lottery or misplaces it therefore he/she can’t claim it (in case of paper-based lottery purchase).
It could lead to ruckus and violence that might create havoc.
Fraudulent also gives significant morale and financial boost to black markets.
